Systemics: Viable Solutions for Complex Challenges

Why do so many new products and services fail? And how can we significantly increase the chances of an innovation to succeed? This book proposes a holistic process model for tackling complex challenges and finding viable solutions. Based on a systemic view we see a problem as a dynamic entity that interacts with its environment. In order to create viable solutions we have to emphasize the early phase of the project and to understand WHAT is the problem – prior to think about HOW we can create adequate solutions. The reader is given insight into the various phases of the problem-solving process, from recognizing an opportunity or formulating the problem to the realization of a product or service. In addition to methodological content, the book also takes a systemic perspective on topics that are no less significant in ensuring the success of a project, such as perception, communication, creativity, quality, or project management. Real case studies help to make the connection between theory and practice and demonstrate the flexibility of the systemic approach.

The authors hold positions both at the Bern University of Applied Sciences as well as in private organizations. As lecturers in the fields of Business Development, Project Management, Innovation Management, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering as well as being responsible for several interdisciplinary projects, the authors have a wealth of experience that they draw upon. The case studies are presented by authorities in their field.
