"The Texas & Pacific line was formerly known as the Southern Pacific and was sometimes called the Memphis and El Paso Road. It began at Shreveport in 1858, reached Marshall in 1859, Longview in 1870, Dallas in 1873, and Fort Worth in July 1876.
