Sole edition. Cr. 8vo, (7 x 5 inches or 18 x 12 cm), pp. frontis + viii + 423, numerous diagrams and illustrations in text, hardback. Book - G, prelims a little dusty otherwise contents clean, no foxing, very occasional minor pencil inscriptions in text, binding is good with inner hinges intact ; original brown cloth with title in black to spine and front, corners rubbed and bent, back has clean overall appearance but with a few spots of discolouration and slight fading towards base and hinge, spine is complete with rubbing and nicks at ends and with some fading but title is still distinct, front hinge has small splits at top and bottom and two other small splits in the top quarter , front board has distinct title but slight fading towards base and two patches of colour loss at top front corner and about half way down and towards front. No dustwrapper - [ever issued ? ] . Contents include chapters on geology, physics, mechanics, steam , chemistry, prospecting and boring, shaft sinking, mine supports, methods of working, ventilation, miner's anaemia, explosives, drainage, haulage, winding coal, preparation of coal for market, surveying and drawing, rescue apparatus ; plus an appendix of examination questions and an index.
