THINK JAZZ BOOK 1 Format: Paperback

Think Jazz! A Jazz Piano Method by Bill Boyd is a structured piano instruction book designed for early intermediate students who want a clear, engaging introduction to jazz piano. Created for learners and teachers with little or no prior experience in jazz styles, this method builds confidence through original music and step-by-step guidance that makes each concept easy to understand and apply in real playing situations, whether during lessons or independent practice sessions.

This method presents clear standard notation with thoughtfully arranged pieces that reinforce each concept as it is introduced. Students progress through essential jazz elements, including rhythm patterns, accompaniment styles, and basic improvisation techniques. The original songs serve as practical studies, allowing players to immediately apply new skills at the keyboard while developing musical feel, coordination, timing, and stylistic awareness through consistent, focused practice.

As skills develop, players are guided through stylistic variations such as blues, ragtime, stride, and boogie woogie, along with approachable introductions to playing from a fake book. This variety builds both technical ability and stylistic awareness, helping students understand how jazz works in real playing situations. The accessible pacing makes it especially useful for lessons, home study, or structured self-guided learning at an early intermediate level.

Whether used as a teaching resource or a personal study guide, this method offers a practical and enjoyable path into jazz piano. It supports steady progress while keeping students motivated through stylistic variety and playable music, making it a reliable choice for building confidence, creativity, musical expression, and long-term piano skills at the keyboard.
