Original dark brown pebbled cloth; several mildly discolored patches to spines with lesser instances to boards which have slender wear at their fore-edge corners; short tears and some fraying at spine ends; gilt stamping to front boards and spines remains bright. All edges marbled. Some soiling and foxing to initial and rear leaves with scattered occurrences to interior pages which overall remain quite clean. Bindings are firm. Double-column text. *** VOLUME I: i-xiv, 1-739, [1], i-xxvi, [2] pages. Frontispiece b/w portrait with shallow gutter stub indicating removed tissue guard sheet. *** VOLUME II: 1-788, i-xxii, [6] pages.
