About this Item
Facsimile reprints of the original editions, bound in full genuine leather. This beautiful set was released beginning in 1980, concluding in 1984. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Silk ribbons. Illustrations in each volume calling for them. A COMPLETE SET, 30 titles in 31 volumes. These facsimile editions were later reprinted in simulated leather hardbound, but this is the genuine leather set first issued by Time Life. We wish to mention that many volumes were stated as bound in leather, but some weren't stated as such, yet were (and some of the later printings were stated bound in leather, but weren't! Go figure.). Several of the volumes have the bookplate that came with each volume. A few volumes have the printed sheet noting the historical nature of the original publication. It is hard to imagine a more important set of nicely reproduced books encompassing the length & breadth of Western Americana that Time Life decided to reprint. Most volumes in their original editions are obviously quite rare. Titles: Adams, Log of a Cowboy", Allen, "Adventures with Indians and Game", Bourke, "On the Border With Crook", Carrington, "Ab-Sa-Ra-Ka", Cody, "The Life of Buffalo Bill", Conard, "'Uncle Dick' Wootton", Cremony, "Life Among the Apaches", DeBarthe, "The Life and Adventures of Frank Grouard", Delano, "Life on the Plains and at the Diggings", Dellenbaugh, "The Romance of the Colorado River", Dimsdale, The Vigilantes of Montana", Duval, "The Adventures of Big-Foot Wallace", Garrard, "Wah-To-Yah and the Taos Trail", Garrett, "The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid", Hamilton, "My Sixty Years on the Plains", Hobbs, "Wild Life in the Far West", Inman, "The Old Santa Fe Trail", Irving, "A Tour on the Prairies", Manly, "Death Valley in '49", Marcy, "The Prairie Traveler", Marryat, "Mountains and Molehills", Parkman, "The California and Oregon Trail", Olmsted, "A Journey Through Texas", Roosevelt, "Ranch Life and the Hunting-Trail", Ruxton, "Life in the Far West", Siringo, "A Texas Cowboy", Stratton, "Captivity of the Oatman Girls", Summerhayes, "Vanished Arizona", Taylor, "Eldorado, Vol I & II", Twain, "Roughing It". This set is in vg+ to fine condition, overall. Please note that some copies have silver stamping on the spine instead of gold, but they are leather bound & have all the marks (gilt edges, marbled endpapers, ribbon) required of the original TL publishing. I have handled two complete sets of the leather set in my bookselling career and have This is one T-L set that deserves a solid value for the collector in the years to come.
