TRADE SECRETS: TIPS, TOOLS, AND TIMESAVERS FOR MIDDLE AND SECONDARY TEACHERS

The first day, week, month and year of school are simultaneously exciting and overwhelming; rewarding and frustrating; energizing and exhausting. These are all normal responses to the demands being placed on you as an educator. This text is designed to provide explicit information about the demands, decisions and details you will deal with in your teaching. "Trade Secrets" is organized into five major sections that parallel the concerns of teachers as they progress through the school year.

Billie Enz (Ph.D. Elementary Education) is the Associate Director of the Division of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at Arizona State University. She is responsible for establishing professional development and induction programs with local school districts. Dr. Enz is the author and co-author for several books on new teacher development and mentor trianing. Dr. Enz is a member of the Early Childhood faculty and teaches language and literacy courses.

Connie J. Honaker (M.A. English Education) is a Faculty Associate for the Beginning Educator Support Team (BEST) program in the College of Education at Arizona State University. She teaches all levels of BEST courses. Connie has taught at the elementary and secondary levels and served as an administrator in various roles. Connie is a recipient of the Arizona Distinguised Administrator of the Year Award presented by the Arizona School Administrators Association.

Sharon A. Kortman (Ed. D. Curriculum and Instruction) is Lecturer in the College of Education at Arizona State University. She is the Director of the Beginning Educator Support Team (BEST) program, a partnership between university and school districts providing comprehensive support, training, curriculum, courses and resources in the areas of teacher induction, mentoring and preparation for aligning practice to the teaching standards. Dr. Kortman also does consultant work in the areas of personality and interaction styles, which along with support to the education profession, positively affects student achievement.
