16pp. Illustrated with 8 plates including frontispiece; two of the plates are pasted down. Bound in original plain grey stiff wrappers; both covers are detached but present. Half-title shows a tear; there is an indentation across the whole width and affecting all the pages and even, slightly, the rear cover. Age-related tanning to the pages. Housed in a later cloth chemise, and in a later slipcase of blue-green leather with five raised bands on the spine and gilt titling. The chemise is fine; the slipcase, which shows a little wear, is very good. This appears to be one of the original copies which accompanied A. S. W. Rosenbach's deluxe edition of Early American Children's Books.
