Octavo, 5.75 x 9 in., pp. ii + 412. Illustrated with 26 steel engravings. Contemporary red cloth boards with floral design embossed in blind to both boards. Gilt monogram surrounded by wreath to front board; gilt title and floral design to spine. Rubbing to extremities. Several small dark stains to boards. Corners are nudged. Elaborate bookplate (3.5 x 4.5 in.) of dancing pigs with the name Gilbert MacSwiney to front pastedown. Bindery sticker (Bone and Son, London) to rear pastedown. Rear hinge holding, but showing mull. Samuel Lover (24 February 1797 6 July 1868), also known as "Ben Trovato" ("well invented"), was an Irish songwriter, composer and novelist, and a portrait painter, chiefly in miniatures.
