By Craig Rice, pseudonym of Georgiana Ann Randolph Craig. Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, A Tower Mystery, (1942). First Tower Books edition, first printing "Tower Books Edition, first printing September 1942" statement to the copyright page. Originally published by Simon & Schuster in 1941, this Tower Mystery edition has new and exclusive jacket art by the collaborating artist team know as Adler & Lubalin. The fifth, (and a fan favorite) of thirteen mysteries featuring investigating lawyer and tough private detective, John J. Malone with side-kick rich couple sleuthing helpers Jake Justus and Helene Brand, is set in rural Wisconsin. This title earned a place in the prestigious Haycraft & Queen Cornerstone selection. The series was adapted to a 1951-52 thirteen episode television series 'The Amazing Mr. Malone' starring Lee Tracy. Also adapted to numerous radio plays, and based on the character for the 1950 film 'Mrs. O'Malley and Mr. Malone' starring James Whitmore and Marjorie Main. A decently presentable vintage collectible. Mystery novelist and mystery script and screenwriter's stamped name and book-plate to the front end-paper, age-toning to the inner hinge areas as usual, very light foxing to the outer page fore-edges, slight fading to the upper spine end, rubs to the upper spine edge, else very good, square and quite firm in blue linen with black Mystery bat insignia to the front cover and with black titles to the spine, upper page edges blue; in a good only, dust jacket with mystery art by the artist team of Samuel Adler & Herb Lubalin, a piece of amber tape reinforcing to the upper front panel and lower spine end, rub-wear to the spine folds, heavy chipping to the upper spine end area, a small chip, nicks and very short tears to the shelf-edges; original printed code 409 still intact to the front inner flap. The dust jacket will be placed in a clear removable, protective sleeve after scanning for this entry.…
