TROPICAL DISEASES:: Current Issues

Tropical diseases constitute a broad and heterogeneous group of illnesses that affect populations predominantly located in regions with hot and humid climates, especially in countries in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. This type of climate provides favorable conditions for the proliferation of vectors, such as mosquitoes, snails, and sandflies, which act as intermediate agents in the transmission of various pathogens. The persistence of these diseases is strongly linked to the environment and the social, structural, and sanitary conditions to which these populations are subjected, making an epidemiological and contextual understanding of these diseases essential for the development of effective prevention and control policies.
