About this Item
All these quarter-folded, 17 X 21-inch USGS Topographic Maps appear to be near-fine to fine unused, with the exceptions of Mt. Tom, Calif., (1949), which shows a light brown stain (coffee spill?) along one edge, not reaching beyond the white margin; Mt Abbot, Calif. (1953), which has been folded two more times, presumably to fit in a 4 X 5-1/2-inch pocket, and Mt. Pinchot, Calif. (1953), which also shows two additional folds. All maps dated 1948 at the earliest, 1958 at the latest, BUT Mt. Goddard 1948 states "Minor corrections made 1957," Blackcap Mtn. 1953 states "Minor corrections made 1962," and Mount Whitney 1956 states "Limited revision 1967," AND all these map carry USGS addresses with Colorado zip code 80225 and D.C. zip code 20242, meaning all were printed after the introduction of zip codes in 1962, probably in the 1960s or 1970s. (From the estate of David R. Williams, Jr., who taught Geology at Santa Barbara City College.) The accompanying 1967 "Sierra North" hiking booklet is of 180 pp. including 37 elevation profiles, an Index, and also including several two-color maps bound in on stiffer stock, covering multi-day hiking routes in quadrangles from Yosemite and Mono Creek in the South, north to Desolation Valley adjoining Lake Tahoe. The group now reduced from $315.
