Broadside. 30 x 13 cm. Promotional story for the Ancient Order of United Workmen one of the first fraternal organizations to provide insurance to the working man. The text tells the story of two widows one whose husband who decided to find a cheaper alternative to AOUW who was left with nothing and the other whose husband continued to pay his dues and whose widow was left with financial support. The AOUW, founded in 1868, met with a number of other like-minded groups in 1873 to form the National Fraternal Congress. In 1952 the national organization of the AOUW dissolved leaving its fate in the hands of individual state organizations. Only the Washington State affiliate retained the name.
