The Macleans - three brothers who own the sheep property Tybal in the south-western corner of Western Australia - are the focus of this gripping story. Don Mac, the youngest, is an adventurer and yearns to go buffalo hunting in the Northern Territory. Vivian, the eldest, drinks heavily and is lured on a search for gold. Both are unaware of the dangers that threaten their run.

Only Alan, the steadfast 28-year-old, is not blind to the perils. This single-minded battler strives to keep Tybal intact despite drought, fire, growing debts and, most importantly, the wheat growers who are moving into the area and encroaching upon traditional grazing lands.

Set in the years after the First World War, Tybal Men depicts the rough struggle for survival of farmers in the backblocks. Its author, Louis Kaye, worked for many years on stations in such remote country and his stirring tale reflects all the vigour and ruggedness of that land.
