Informs Wollheim that "I have a brand-new weird story coming out in the January issue of WEIRD TALES, on the stands in a few days . the first short story I've written in ten years ." Also, "as a result of the reprinting of 'The Gun' in the AVON FANTASY READER, I got a letter . from someone who wants to reprint the other weird story you mentioned in the blurb, accompanying the story." Frank Gruber (1904-1969) was a prolific American writer of pulp fiction, especially Westerns, and scripts for film and TV. Gruber was co-creator of the TV western TALES OF WELLS FARGO (1957-1962). Gruber wrote a basic book on the pulps, THE PULP JUNGLE (1967), a work praised by critic Bill Blackbeard who considered it to be "excellent as anecdotal color relevant to the creative lives and commerce of the pulp writers in the 1930's and 1940's ."
