The Poughkeepsie, New York attorney and later State Supreme Court Justice John E. Mack (1875-1958) is credited with persuading Franklin E. Roosevelt to run for the State Senate in 1910. One of the most successful lawyers in the Hudson Valley, Mack took part in many of the publicly exciting, sometimes scandalous, legal battles in New York State. After being elected Governor in 1928, FDR went on to appoint Mack as Justice of the Ninth Judicial District to fill a vacancy, though Mack subsequently lost the election. In 1932, John E. Mack made the nomination speech in support of FDR at the Chicago Democratic National Convention, and again in Philadelphia in 1936.…
