A scarce revised edition of Filippini's best known culinary publication The Table. Revised edition, with supplements. With a portrait frontispiece and two facsimile letters. Collated complete. A cookbook associated with, but not exclusively drawn from, the New York restaurant Delmonico with additional recipes from around the world. The Table includes menus for every day of the year as well as simple recipes based on the author's professional restaurant career favourites. With an interesting article on the fish available at market for each month of the year, as well as commentary on the relative strengths and weaknesses of American food markets as they compare to their European counterparts, especially with regard to beef. Written by Alessandro Filippini, who anglicized his name and operated professionally as "Alexander Filippini", a culinary expert and chef at Delmonico"s Restaurant in New York in the second half of the 1800s, and a cookbook author. He was instrumental in shaping American haute cuisine. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the extremities and the odd small handling mark. Further age toning to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper with bookseller's label to the rear pastedown. Good.
