About this title

Synopsis

"The Table-Talk of John Selden, Esq" offers a fascinating glimpse into the mind of one of the most learned and influential figures of 17th-century England. Compiled and edited by his secretary, Richard Milward, these collected thoughts and opinions of John Selden cover a vast range of subjects, from law and politics to religion and social customs.

Presented in a conversational, accessible style, Selden's insights remain remarkably relevant today. This edition, carefully annotated by Samuel Weller Singer and with an introduction by Edward Fitzgerald, enhances the reader's understanding of the historical context and intellectual significance of Selden's observations. A valuable resource for scholars and anyone interested in the history of ideas, "The Table-Talk" provides a unique window into a pivotal period in English history.
