This is an uncommon (fifth) edition of the noted actuary guide by John Smart. To which is added an appendix containing some observations on the general probability of life. John Smart was a pioneer of the actuarial science and his original tables, published in 1724, underwent many revisions to be used throughout the trade. In a quarter calf binding. Externally, worn with heavy rubbing, bumping and some loss to spine and extremities. Hinges failed and boards held by cords only. Internally, binding generally firm although strained in places.
