This book gives a description of the clause structure of Mexican Spanish, from the point of view of tagmemic theory. It is therefore not only an analysis of one portion of the syntax of Spanish (it is assumed that much, if not all, of the description would also be true for other dialects of Spanish) but is also an illustration of the application of tagmemic theory to the analysis of an Indo-European language. (Hithertofore, the only tagmemic materials in wide circulation have been concerning exotic or little known languages.) All of the clauses in a given corpus, a series of conversations which are included in an appendix, are analysed in cons.
