Taha the Kava: Aloha New Friend (Paperback or Softback)

Taha the Kava Plant: Aloha, New Friend! is a heartwarming children's story set in the sunny town of Paia, Hawaii, where a small kava plant named Taha begins a new life in a vibrant seaside garden. Surrounded by colorful plants like Lulu the Pineapple, Kimo the Mango, and Nani the Taro, Taha quickly realizes that he doesn't quite look like anyone else, and the others aren't sure what to make of him. Feeling lonely and unsure, Taha wonders if he truly belongs.

Everything changes when a young girl named Leilani and her grandmother visit the garden. With kindness and wisdom, Grandma explains that kava, known as ʻawa in Hawaiian, has deep cultural roots in island tradition. Used long ago to bring people together, kava carries stories, history, and a sense of calm in its strong, grounding roots. Taha's confidence begins to grow as his new friends learn what makes him special.

When a powerful storm hits Paia, the garden is shaken, but Taha's deep roots keep the soil steady, protecting the plants around him. Lulu, Kimo, and Nani finally see that every plant has its own strengths, and Taha's unique gifts help the entire garden thrive. Together they learn the meaning of important Hawaiian words like aloha, mahalo, and ʻohana, discovering that love, gratitude, and family come in many forms.

Filled with Hawaiian culture, vivid tropical imagery, and gentle lessons about diversity, belonging, and friendship, Taha the Kava Plant: Aloha, New Friend! is a joyful tale that reminds young readers that being different is something to celebrate-and that everyone has something special to share. Perfect for early readers, classrooms, families, and anyone who wants to explore the beauty of Hawaiian traditions through a story full of warmth and aloha.

Aloha! I'm the creator of Aloha in Every Bite and the founder of Kihei Web Design LLC, where my two biggest passions - Hawaiian culture and digital creativity - come together in the heart of Maui. Just a few short years ago, I took my first trip to Maui and was instantly hooked. The beauty, spirit, and community of the island made such an impact on me that I knew I had to return - not just to visit, but to stay. After one unforgettable vacation in October 2017, I made the leap and landed back in Maui just 30 days later to start a brand-new chapter. Now based in Kihei, I've combined my love of the island with years of experience in web design, marketing, SEO, and small business development. I started Kihei Web Design LLC to bring fresh, modern digital services to local businesses across the islands, helping them grow, connect, and thrive. But my love for Maui didn't stop at pixels and code - it extended into the kitchen.
