Alan Venable's novel Ratting on Russo was published in 2013. His children's picture books include The Checker Players and Nutty to Meet You!, a Dr. Peanut book. His plays have been performed in Canada and the United States. He has written more than thirty short books of historical fiction and other genres for the Don Johnston Start-to-Finish series. He was born in Pittsburgh and plays the accordion in San Francisco.
