The subtitle aptly describes this book, an extensive revision of Taking Game Fish, edited by Swainbank ( LJ 2/15/80). Chapters on basics for bass, walleye, Northern carp, and salmon, four on fly fishing, and one on deepwater trolling reflect the considerable experience and fisheries knowledge of six authors who range from professional guide to charter boat captain. Their examples center on the Finger Lakes of New York, but transfer well to most parts of the United States and Canada; the illustrations contribute much to this universality. More than just how-to pieces, these essays are filled with information about fish and bait behavior, habitat, tackle development, and lure presentation. Taken together, they are an excellent introduction to a variety of fish and fishing methods. This book should be welcome in most public libraries.
