For most people “taking a shot” is simply an easy metaphor; for Richard O’Connor, it’s a way of life. From the asphalt basketball courts of Union City, to Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke, the Left Bank of Paris, the pages of Sport magazine and the world of publishing, O’Connor has risked it all and bet on himself time and time again. His memoir “Taking a Shot” is a fascinating account of his remarkable life and career and the never-ending search for what really matters.
Glenn Stout, Founding Editor of Best American Sports Writing Series and author of Young Woman and the Sea

Once I started the book I couldn’t put it down. Neither could my wife. Because O’Connor’s story is universal. It’s poignant, funny and heartfelt. About a man bearing his most vulnerable self by capturing the essence of growing up a superstar athlete in Jersey the way Springsteen captures a poet running on the road of life. If you don’t read this book, you are really missing out. So take a shot. You will thank me later.
