Paperback. As 'debates' rage about the fates of (mostly black and brown) refugees entering Europe, and targeted police violence sparks protests across the U.S., the ugly spectre of racism is visible on both sides of the Atlantic. Anti-racists are stepping up - but, particularly among white liberal activists, often with limited and sometimes counter-productive effects. Taking Sides is a critical response to the divisive debates within the left about anti-racist movement building. The essays are sharp interventions designed to force activists to rethink their positions. In the struggle against racist violence, there are no "outside agitators." Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.

"Taking Sides is more than a book; it's a politic aimed at the heart of every radical struggling against a racist state." —Luis A. Fernandez, author of Policing Dissent
Taking Sides is a critical response to divisive debates within current movements against police violence and white supremacy, especially since Michael Brown's murder. These sharp interventions ask activists to avoid easy—and safe—answers and take on the hard work of building real grassroots solidarity across racial lines.
Cindy Milstein is author of Anarchism and Its Aspirations. Her essays appeared in Realizing the Impossible, Confronting Capitalism, and Globalize Liberation.
