Item description from seller

Composed in the early 11th century by a lady of the Japanese Imperial Court, this is purported to be "the world's first real novel." This is the second of its original six parts, continuing the story of Prince Genji after the death of his father, the Emperor. 266 pages. Translated from the original Japanese by Arthur Waley, this is the first Doubleday Anchor mass market paperback edition (A179). An unusual secondary collectible for the Edward Gorey fan, as he did the typography (not the cover, no illustrations) here. Condition is VG: very clean & tight, pages creamy white & unmarked save for former owner's stamp to half-title page. Light soil & foxing to exterior edges of text block, very slight rubbing to extremities, with small areas of silverfish damage (rubbed spots) to top edge of front cover. Nicely protected in new clear mylar collector bag free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders placed Weekdays by 2 pm (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.…
