With an autograph letter of provenance dated "21 March 1998 Re the book'The Tale of Ginger and Pickles' by Beatrix Potter. The above book was signed by Beatrix Potter in 1941, and was given to me by my next door neighbour Mr. W.A.D. Eastham, manager of Martins Bank, Blackpool [until 1951]. During the war he stayed each year in the village of Sawrey, and became quite friendly with Beatrix, who as a favour agreed to sign the book. Also enclosed is a Frederick Warne's catalogue. (Mrs) Ruth Lee". Originally a manuscript presented to Harold Warne's daughter as a Christmas present, but with one of the illustrations it contained cut-out for use in the book. The tale tells of two shopkeepers, the eponymous Ginger & Pickles, who extend unlimited credit to their customers (a veritable who's-who of characters from Beatrix's other works) and, as a result, are forced to go out of business.
