Early printing of this later Beatrix Potter classic, based on Aesop's fable of the county mouse and the city mouse. First published in 1918, with a US price of 50¢, this example has a price of 85¢ on the jacket flap and lists two titles first published in French in 1921 on the back of the jacket - two more were added in 1922, and are NOT mentioned on the jacket. Early printings of any Potter title in jacket are scarce! Blue-green hardcover, white titling, color paste-down illustration. Light wear to book, minor rubbing to corners, some damage to rear endsheets from something sticky, light foxing to pages; jacket foxed with a few short tears, small chips. 85 pages, color illustrations. Size: 4½" by 5-5/8".
