First published in 1859, Dickens's novel is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution.The novel tells the story of the French Doctor Manette, his imprisonment in the Bastille, and his release to live in London with his daughter whom he had never met. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, engraved title page, and fourteen plates by Phiz. Collated, complete.Dated 1901 via pagination.With a prize bookplate to the front pastedown, awarding the work to W. J. Wilson in 1924-25. With the bookplate of Egerton Parker to the verso of the front free endpaper. In a full calf prize binding, with gilt detailing to back strip and board perimeters. Back strip age toned. Head of front joint starting, with board firmly held. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, binding tender in places, with the second and third gathering working loose.
