Third & First Editions, 1851 & 1850. Frontispiece in each volume. Two volumes uniformly bound in fine-ribbed navy blue cloth, with blindstamped decoration on front boards, lettered in gilt; yellow endpapers. Lightly scuffed, armorial bookplates on each front pastedown, gift inscription (1961) on front free endpaper of second volume, light foxing throughout, a good set. A collection of short stories (12 in each volume) set in a small northern parish. Religious in flavour: "The reader must be prepared to pursue his way through scenes of sorrow and of sin".

Orders usually ship within 2 business days.
All books are packaged in bubblewrap and stiff, double-walled cardboard. We do not use soft "mailing" bags.
Shipping costs are based on books weighing 750 gm. If a book or set of books is heavier and requires extra postage, this fact will be stated in the item description. If you order a heavy book, we will contact you to let you know the amount of extra shipping required; and to ask for your agreement to the additional charge.
Please note that for international sales "Priority" indicates airmail services and "Standard" indicates surface services. Surface mail can take up to three months to deliver outside Europe.
