Tallahatchie

He came to Tallahatchie to make things right. Saving an entire town was never part of the plan.

Jack Hartman has everything-a beautiful home on the Gulf Coast, the woman he loves, and a secure future running his family's successful business.

Then he meets Cici Cannon, a gifted young blues singer with troubles Jack doesn't fully understand. She seems to need his help, but Jack's attempt to rescue her ends in disaster. Cici's life spirals out of control, and Jack's fiancée, Acey Kimmons, walks away believing the worst.

Burdened by guilt and determined to repair some of the damage, Jack leaves his comfortable life behind and follows Cici home to Tallahatchie, Mississippi. There he takes a job managing an aging furniture factory teetering on the edge of collapse. Hundreds of jobs depend on its survival, and Jack-an incurable idealist-becomes convinced he can save it.

He soon discovers the Mississippi Delta operates by its own rules.

Surrounded by an unforgettable collection of workers, schemers, survivors, and good-hearted eccentrics, Jack finds his plans repeatedly colliding with stubborn traditions, unexpected loyalties, hard truths, and situations so outrageous that sometimes the only sensible response is laughter.

While fighting to save the factory and help Cici rebuild her life, Jack must face a harder question: Can he put right what went wrong without losing Acey forever?

Set in the rural Mississippi Delta, Tallahatchie is a character-rich blend of Southern fiction and dark comedy-a funny, poignant story of love, loyalty, second chances, and the dignity of people doing their best in a place the rest of the world too easily overlooks.

A former 82nd Airborne paratrooper, Rick brings uncommon authenticity, emotional depth, and lived experience to stories shaped by war, memory, loyalty, and the American South. He's the author of fourteen novels and the recipient of four literary awards, but he's just as likely to talk about Alabama football, nature photography, black coffee, straight bourbon, or the rabbits currently trying to claim his Mississippi garden.
