Synopsis
TANGLED SPURS Chasing dreams or working to survive, when love enters, hard choices must be made. Hank West is content as foreman on the Harper Ranch. After the big gunfight, he has to become the manager for the big ranch next door. He quickly finds himself unsure for the first time in years, struggling to communicate with the Mexican vaqueros and a pretty woman. Isabelle Lamarck is a trained French chef who cannot cook in restaurants. Lured by money and the promise to be the exclusive chef for a banker and his wife she travels to a small town in Texas. Soon, all the citizens of Star are embroiled in chaos and the banker leaves with his wife to find help for her at a hospital for the insane. Alone at the house, Isabelle decides to use her pastry skills to raise money to return home. When Hank moves in with rules on how he wants things run, she fights her temper and temptation as the man lures her to a fate she has avoided for years. When she sees a chance to run a restaurant and bakery in town, the dream she has always wanted, it means fleeing the man she is attracted to. Then he makes it clear he desires her, but has nothing to offer a woman and would never consider marriage. With her heart full of longing for what could never be, she settles for creating a business and successful life in town away from temptation. Hank wants to avoid the woman but is drawn into spending every minute helping her in one way or another. As their lives and desires become hopelessly tangled, Hank prays they both survive.
About the Author
J.R. Biery has written for years and is finally publishing some of her more recent work. She wrote and sold fiction and nonfiction to magazines while a stay-at home mom. Loved entering writing contests and won several awards. After she began her career as a teacher, she found it was more satisfying just to continue writing but not worry about marketing. She did have one novel, Potter's Field, accepted and published by Advance Books, a small publisher no longer in business. "I prefer stories about ordinary people who are slapped by adversity and discover who they really are as they overcome the challenge. An avid reader, I began writing my own books in my twenties. I found writing, escaping into fantasy, to be a great source of comfort and relief from the stress of real life. No matter how big the problem, in fiction you can always write a satisfying solution." Since retiring, she has written twenty-eight new books and several shorter works and published them on Kindle and Create Space.
