Tantivy in Rust: Building High-Performance Full-Text Search Services

"Tantivy in Rust: Building High‑Performance Full‑Text Search Services"

Modern search systems demand more than fast keyword matching: they require disciplined schema design, predictable indexing pipelines, strong relevance, and production-grade operational control. This book is written for experienced Rust developers, backend engineers, and search practitioners who want to use Tantivy as the core of serious full-text search services. It assumes the reader is ready to move beyond introductory examples and build systems that must perform reliably under real workloads.

Across its chapters, the book develops a complete mental model of Tantivy, from schemas, analyzers, segments, and writers to query construction, collectors, scoring, and reader refresh. Readers will learn how to model documents for search quality, build efficient ingestion flows, expose safe and expressive query APIs, tune ranking behavior, and evaluate relevance with repeatable test suites. The book also covers the surrounding service layer: concurrency, backpressure, failure handling, deployment, backups, schema evolution, and version-sensitive operational decisions.

Rather than treating search as an isolated library concern, the book presents Tantivy in its full systems context inside Rust applications and services. The result is a technically rigorous, implementation-focused guide for designing, operating, and evolving high-performance search infrastructure with confidence.
