About this Item
A lovely copy of this work on English tapestry weaving, with 60 plates and illustrations. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Frontispiece depicts the tapestry of Vulcan and Venus from the Victoria and Albert Museum, made between 1620 and 1625. A list of subscribers has been tipped in between the preface and the contents page, amongst which Queen Mary of Teck is a noted subscriber. 60 plates and illustrations of tapestries, a few of which are in colour. Collated complete. This is a richly illustrated history of tapestry weaving, tapestry workshops, purchases of tapestries and royal tapestries. There is particular mention of Mortlake Tapestry Works. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with only slight bumping to the extremities. Gilt is still bright. Internally, the binding is slightly strained in places. Pages bright and clean, with just some spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good. Seller Inventory # 830M9
