Tar Paint

Tar Paint is a raw, lyrical, and darkly funny debut novel that dives deep into the American backcountry, where healing comes in the form of hard labor, busted knuckles, and unexpected brotherhood.

After a personal tragedy upends his life, Sam finds himself in the dusty heart of rural Oklahoma, rebuilding fences and fighting demons—his own and others’. He’s joined by a rough crew of misfits: a grizzled mentor with a dark past, a motor-mouthed cousin who rides like hell, a silent cook who speaks through food, and a revolving cast of characters shaped by addiction, grit, and the relentless Southern sun.

As Sam battles his own guilt and grief, he’s pulled into a world of chain-link tension and steel-toed loyalty, where stories are swapped over campfires and redemption is earned posthole by posthole. Alongside the backbreaking work is the rumble of off-road motorcycles, the ghost of a lost love, and a fence that might hold more than cattle on the right side.

Told with vivid detail and a voice that blends the poetic with the profane, Tar Paint is a novel about recovery, masculinity, found family, and the beauty buried beneath rust and ruin.

Perfect for fans of gritty realism, Cormac McCarthy’s sparse landscapes, and Denis Johnson’s flawed heroes.
