John R. Wink serves as the superintendent of Carthage Independent School District in Carthage, Texas. From 2014 to 2016, John served as the assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the Tatum Independent School District in Tatum, Texas. During his time in Tatum, students and teachers grew tremendously in their performance on standardized testing and in college and career preparation. Prior to that, John served as principal at Gilmer Elementary School (2011-2014), where he led the school through improvement status to academic distinction. As principal of Hallsville Middle School (2002-2008), he led the school from acceptable to exemplary status in four years; and as principal of Hallsville High School (2008-2011), he led the school to become one of the top academic high schools in Texas.
John earned a bachelor of music in vocal performance from Stephen F. Austin State University, a master of education administration from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and his superintendent's certificate from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Prior to his work as an administrator, John was the choir director at Longview High School in Longview, Texas, from 1996 to 2002, where numerous students earned membership into the Texas All-State Choir. His choirs earned numerous first-division and sweepstakes honors.
