About the Authors

ALAN M. DERSHOWITZ is a world-renowned author, criminal lawyer, law professor, and civil liberties defender. He is the author of more than twenty books, including The Case for Israel, Letters to a Young Lawyer, and Defending Israel, and his writing has been praised by literary figures from Truman Capote to Elie Wiesel. His books have sold over a million copies total, and over a million people have heard him lecture. He lives in New York City.

Frederick M. Hess is Director of Education Studies at the American Enterprise Institute and Executive Editor of Education Next.

Michael Kazin is a professor of history at Georgetown University and editor emeritus of Dissent. His books include American Dreamers: How the Left Changed a Nation, The Populist Persuasion, and A Godly Hero: The Life of William Jennings Bryan. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and editor of The Princeton Encyclopedia of American Political History.

PETER LEVINE earned his M.F.A. from The Writing Seminars at The Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of The Appearance of a Hero. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Southern Review, The Missouri Review, StoryQuarterly, and elsewhere. He has held residencies at Yaddo and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He lives in Washington, D.C.

John R. Thelin, PhD, is professor of higher education and public policy at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He is an alumnus of Brown University where he concentrated in history and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He received his master's degree in history and doctorate in history of education from the University of California, Berkeley.
