Teaching of Culture, Culture of Teaching

The book is a significant intervention in the study of literature, culture and pedagogy. A variety of subjects are covered ranging from trauma theory, petro fiction, cyber culture, popular fiction, comic books, to digital humanities. Broadly, the essays fall into two categories – teaching of culture and culture of teaching. The first section provides a probing analysis of the fascinating ways in which literature and culture are enmeshed in politics, ideology, and technologies of power. It also includes chapters on the rise of pulp fiction and the emergence of new millennial genres like campus novel, chick lit and crick lit in Indian Writing in English. The second section looks at the disruptive impact of Covid-19 crisis on higher education in India. It analyzes what ‘to teach’ means when pandemic and infodemic together cause seismic shifts to our ecosystem. Interdisciplinary in approach and written in a lucid style, the book will definitely engage the attention of both the serious scholar and the general reader.

Dr. Prantik Banerjee is Professor of English, Hislop College, Nagpur. His recent books are Cultural Studies: Texts and Contexts and Theory in Praxis: Discourses on Literature and Culture. His writings have been published in Globalization Reader, Nomadism Reader, Asian Literature in English, Films and Literature, Conflict Studies, and Race, Caste and Gender. He is also a poet and short story writer. His poems have been published in Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature, Little Magazine, PEN International, Journal of Poetry Society of India, Kavya Bharati, QUEST, etc. He was featured as ‘Poet of the Fortnight’ in Stanza by renowned poetess, Kamala Das. Writers’ Workshop, Kolkata brought out his first poetry collection, A Postscript on Missing Keys. His collection of short stories, The Keeper of the Dead, won the CLR International Award for Best Experimental Fiction in 2021. His second book of poems Crossing the Line is in print.
