New to the Second Edition:
Teaching Online: A Practical Guide, Second Edition is a must-have resource for anyone teaching online or for instructors supplementing a traditional classroom with online elements. It is also appropriate for students enrolled in Distance Learning and Ed Technology Masters Programs and librarians working within the context of online education.
Dr. Susan Ko has been Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at University of Maryland University College (UMUC) since October 2003. The Center, (http://umuc.edu/facdev), under the Office of Faculty Affairs, is responsible for providing faculty development for more than 3,000 faculty worldwide, and also administers CTLA 201, the award-winning online teaching training course required for all UMUC faculty teaching online.
Dr. Ko holds a doctorate from Yale University in Chinese language and literature and previously spent more than ten years teaching world literature, Asian Studies, and humanities in the California State University system. Her teaching experience included both traditional face-to-face programs as well as distance education. She began teaching online in 1997 and was responsible for developing some of the core courses in UCLA Extension's pioneering Online Teaching certificate program. She also spent more than five years working in the area of faculty development in the for-profit education sector and as a consultant to develop online teaching training programs before coming to UMUC.
Dr. Ko is currently a part-time faculty member at UMUC, teaching courses in Asian Studies for the School of Undergraduate Studies as well as teaching in the Masters of Distance Education program of the Graduate School of Management and Technology.
