Teaching Open Science (Elgar Guides to Teaching)

This resourceful teaching guide provides practical guidance on how to incorporate the principles of Open Science into teaching and learning across a diverse range of contexts. Educators will assess the challenges, lessons learned and best practice recommendations for teaching Open Science to facilitate transparent, credible, accessible and inclusive research.

Each chapter is presented as a ‘how-to’ guide on topics such as embedding reproducible research throughout the curriculum, supervising open and efficient projects and preregistering with students. The authors analyse case studies and reflections from students, demonstrating effective teaching of the concepts of replication, reproducibility, transparency, inclusivity, decolonization and openness. Highlighting the importance of including Open Science in educational curricula, this teaching guide demonstrates rigorous, responsible research practices that advance human knowledge and equip students with essential skills for the 21st century.

Teaching Open Science is a crucial resource for educators in various scientific disciplines and in pedagogy, teaching and learning, that are looking for practical guidance on incorporating Open Science into their lessons. This teaching guide is particularly beneficial for psychologists looking to integrate this movement into their curriculum.
