Synopsis
Workplace reviews, productivity increases, competition, peak performance indicators, Myers-Briggs personality tests - these buzz words are now common, and have forced many employees to examine their performances at work and look at ways to improve their marketability in the ever-changing employment market. A quick survey of job advertisements in any daily newspaper reveals that the skills being sought for most positions are identical - communication skills, organisational ability and the ability to work autonomously yet also as part of a team. The people management issues most frequently grappled with include effective delegation of work tasks, how to deal with inter-departmental conflict and ways to improve empathy skills to better understand colleagues' motivation and behaviour. Leading Communication Trainer, Shirley McKinnon, examines common excuses and reasons people provide to explain their resistance to overcoming communication obstacles at work.
