This novel explains the situation of Gaza taking an 8-year old boy, Ahmed Qaradawi, as the protagonist of the novel. He, along with his family, struggles to find peace with bombs falling all around them. He befriends another young boy named Ali, and the novel follows their journey, which is filled with loss and blood. The story follows Ali, Ahmed and his family as they move from one place to another, struggling to conjure up something to eat, a roof to live under or clothes to wear that aren't ridden with blood that is either your own or of someone close to you. Ahmed, an 8 year old boy learns to be a man. A child who should have been home playing with toys, safe, with his parents, is forced to learn to deal with loss and become an adult.
