About the Author: Dr. John B. Gradwell has taught at McGill University in Quebec, Canada. Dr. Malcolm Welch is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. He is currently director of the Elementary Science and Technology project, a program of research that is investigating approaches to the teaching of science and technology at the elementary level, providing professional development for teachers, and developing curriculum materials. He is also director of Young Foresight (Canada), a curriculum initiative that engages students in using advanced materials and new and emerging technologies to design products for the future. He has worked on major curriculum projects in the United States, Canada, and England.
