Technology Tips for Seniors, Volume 2.0

In your personal or professional lives you can’t hide from technology…and you shouldn’t want to. Technology can and should make life better, and improve the way we practice law and how we interact with one another. With a little time and effort, you can master (or at least harness) the power of technology. This book propels readers beyond the boundaries of the first Technology Tips for Seniors book. It is designed to walk readers through technology for the office, the home, and on the road and help you safely to maximize your time online. This volume even adds a chapter on the authors’ favorite apps, a quick start guide for applications you may want to incorporate into your use of your tablets, phones, and other smart devices. Every turn of the page presents a new tip, suggestion, or product to add to your technology tool kit. Volume 2.0 does not update or replace the authors’ first Technology Tips for Seniors book. The authors have created a brand-new collection of tips and suggestions that augments their first Technology Tips for Seniors book. You don’t need to read the first one to understand the second; but if you do not have the first volume, you will probably want to get it, as the two together give you even more help and the tips in the first volume remain valuable today.

Ashley Hallene is an attorney, land manager, and real estate developer with Demeter Land Development, currently focused on assisting renewable energy companies with solar developments. Ashley is the co-author of Technology Tips for Lawyers and other Business Professionals (2016), Technology Tips for Seniors (2016), Making Technology Work for You (A Guide for Solo and Small Firm Attorneys) (2013) and The iPad for Lawyers: the tools you need at your fingertips (2013) along with attorney Jeffrey Allen.  She was a contributing author to The ABA Cybersecurity Handbook, released in 2013.  She has published articles on legal technology in GP|SOLO Magazine, GP|SOLO eReport, and the TechnoLawyerNewsletter. Ashley is an active member of the American Bar Association’s General Practice Solo & Small Firm Division, ABA’s Young Lawyer Division, the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association, the Houston Young Lawyer’s Association, and the Houston Association of PetroleumL andmen.  She is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Technology and Reviews Department of the GP|Solo eReport.  She earned her J. D. from University of Houston Law Center in 2009 and her B.S. from University of Houston in 2004.

Ashley resides in Katy, Texas with her husband, Jack, and son Cyrus. 

Jeffrey Allen is a principal in the law firm of Graves & Allen, in Oakland, California. He runs a general practice that, since 1973, has emphasized real estate and business transactions, receiverships and related litigation. Mr. Allen also works extensively as a mediator and as an arbitrator. He actively participates in the work of the Alameda County Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the California Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Allen has taught at the University of California, Berkeley, St. Mary's College and the Oakland College of Law. He currently serves on the faculty of the University of Phoenix and California State University of the East Bay. He frequently presents at continuing education programs for attorneys, brokers, accountants and mediators throughout the United States on technology, trial and mediation technique and California, substantive law topics. He writes columns for several legal magazines and also contributes articles on a regular basis to other legal publications. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the Technology eReport and GPSolo's Technology & Practice Guide. In addition to his practice in the United States, Mr. Allen is a member of the rolls of the Law Society as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. 10/07
