Good. The book is sound: the binding is intact and tight, the dust jacket is present, and the interior pages are clean with no highlighting and no annotations found in the pages examined. Two things to know. First, there is a handwritten personal gift inscription on the inside of the front cover, dated April 2019, from a father to the young person he gave it to; the names are not reproduced in this listing. Second, a retail No Exchange sticker is affixed at the lower left of the front cover. Beyond those, the front cover shows minor shelf wear with light creasing at the corners and the back cover shows minor handling wear. No library stamps, call-number labels, card pockets, date-due slips or barcode stickers are present, so this is not an ex-library copy.

How Technology Works demystifies the machinery that keeps the modern world going, from simple objects such as zip fasteners and can openers to the latest, most sophisticated devices of the information age, including smartwatches, personal digital assistants, and driverless cars. It includes inventions that have changed the course of history, like the internal combustion engine, as well as technologies that might hold the key to our future survival, including solar cells and new kinds of farming to feed a growing population.
Throughout the book, step-by-step explanations are supported by simple and original graphics that take devices apart and show you how they work. The opening chapter explains principles that underpin lots of devices, from basic mechanics to electricity to digital technology. From there, devices are grouped by application--such as the home, transportation, and computing--making them easy to find and placing similar devices side by side. How Technology Works is perfect for anyone who didn't have training in STEM subjects at school or is simply curious about how the modern world works.

Store description
For 15 years I've been an Oregon CPA, and for 10 of those I taught tax and accounting at the college level. But my proudest work has nothing to do with numbers: I homeschooled my daughter from preschool through freshman year and in September she will be starting the 10th grade - homeschooling. This season taught me a good book can shape how a child sees the world. Every title I choose has to engage young minds to think critically and navigate this world with real understanding. Every book has a story — but it only means something when a child lives it. Why Papa Duck? I was "Uncle Duck" to my nieces and nephews for years — duck pictures fill my office, Mallards are my favorite. When my grandson arrived last year, the family asked what he'd call me. There was only one answer. CPA by training, teacher by calling, homeschool dad by experience, Papa Duck by love.…
