Some Teeth Are Rotten

They say the city never sleeps—but some corners of it never wake up.

Esther doesn’t talk. Not with words, at least. They live in a one-room apartment where the walls hum, the lights flicker, and the ghosts never quite leave. Groceries run out. Time runs strange. The neighbor upstairs might be dead, or dreaming. And something awful is growing in the cracks between days.

On the outside, New York buzzes with summer sweat and sirens. But inside Esther’s world, the rules are different. Hunger has a face. Grief wears shoes. And silence isn’t empty—it’s alive.

When the world finally takes notice of Esther, it isn’t out of kindness. It’s something much stranger.
