Synopsis
Beth has worked for over thirty years as an Occupational Therapist helping children with developmental, physical, sensory and emotional needs as well as adults with memory issues and brain injuries. She’s been a Feldenkrais Practitioner for over 25 years providing lessons and functional integration to help people move better in a mindful and whole brain approach. She has also been a therapeutic practitioner of many alternative healing methods. She was a pharmaceutical representative for women’s healthcare. In March 2011, Beth decided she was going to live her passion to write and capture your memories and stories.Beth Lord’s interest in telling stories started in fifth grade when she begged her parents for a tape recorder. She received one for Christmas and taped her grandmother. The first interview that she wrote into a story was with her great-grandmother as part of a high school class assignment that earned her an A+. But it was much later, after decades of experience as an occupational therapist and practitioner of a variety of therapies, that she wrote her next story. It’s about Otis, a lost bloodhound that wandered onto her husband’s farm in Oklahoma. After he left and returned, she was able to find his owner and learn his story that he had a brain injury, which made it impossible for him to find his way home.“I had to make a book out of it,” Beth says, and it caused her to recognize a spiritual calling to help people tell their stories. Some are legacy books, such as the one for Rose, 98, who died when the book was in the proofing stage, Other books chronicle each year of a child’s life. Some clients tell their story of how they survived trials like cancer or made self-discoveries during dark periods of their lives. Beth interviews people in person at her Seattle home or when she is in Oklahoma on their farm or by phone or through a Zoom video meeting. Clients receive proofs, and adjustments are made before Beth prints the final book. Clients also receive access to an eBook (to print themselves) or can get extra copies for an additional fee. Beth offers other book options, including showcasing a business, having a group of people tell their stories or stories to honor a child through a series of books. Eventually, she wants to teach others how to interview and write these books, so more people’s stories are in books. To learn more about her and services, Beth suggests checking out her website, reading her story blogs by signing up for her newsletter and giving her a call. The process usually takes two months from interview to book. If you want to give this as a gift for the Holidays, and Special Occasions. Beth will make a Gift Brochure and include this softbound book helping your loved one gather their memories and stories, so it is a fun process when Beth talks to them. “Give Beth a call at 206.929.0025 or email - beth@bethlord.comWebsite - www.bethlord.comWritten by Dee Goerge Farm Show - vol.42, no.6 .www.farmshow.com. www.bestfarmbuy.com
