Ten

While being exposed to a great artist, young readers will also be counting in four different languages before they know it. Numbers one through ten are clearly translated into English, Spanish, French, and German, while Haring's bright, kid-friendly illustrations make counting an entertaining romp .

PreSchool-KABig features double-page spreads depicting children of all colorsAnot just brown and pink, but also light blue and light pea green. Each child is wearing an "oversized" article of clothingAdescribed as gigantic, enormous, big, huge, tremendous, and jumbo. Along with the synonyms, colors and articles of clothing are identified, making this concept book useful on several levels. In Ten, each illustration depicts an oversized white numeral with a corresponding number of Haring's vibrant stylized figures. The word for the number is offered in English, Spanish, French, and German. In both titles, boldly colored drawings outlined in black will engage very young children. Appealing additions to any board-book collection.ALisa Falk, Los Angeles Public Library.
