The Ten Permissions: Redefining the Rules of Adulting in the 21st Century

We need a new playbook for navigating life in the chaos of the 21st century.

The career ladder, the linear life path, the if-this-then-that formula for success — all of it is dissolving. AI is rewriting what work even is. The old map for getting from here to there, at work or in life, simply doesn't match the territory anymore. Whether you're 25 or 55, you're navigating terrain no one handed you directions for.

Jillian Reilly calls this shift The Great Unraveling — a move from a fixed world of hierarchy, permanence, and predictable paths into a fluid one of flattened structures, constant change, and far more possibility than the old rules let you see. It's disorienting. It's also an opening.

The Ten Permissions offers ten specific permissions to let go of outdated rules and build a more adaptive, responsive way of living and working — not once, but continuously. It will help you:
trade a fixed path for a fluid, portfolio approach to your career and your life, built on your own terms;

redefine success and security in terms that hold up in a world that won't sit still;

learn, adapt, and evolve as an ongoing practice, not a one-time pivot.

Jillian Reilly has spent thirty years helping people and organizations navigate profound change — from rural communities across Africa to corporate boardrooms on three continents. She knows the disruption unsettling your path isn't something to survive. It's the raw material for a life — and a world — actually worth building.
