From the Back Cover
"An excellent way to travel the battlefields of the great state of Tennessee. Well researched, with detailed maps and photographs, this book allows you to follow Gen. N. B. Forrest over his many engagements and march alongside the Army of Tennessee."
--Thomas Cartwright, former director of the Carter House in Franklin, Tennessee
"Bishop has done a fabulous job in conducting an overview of the major battles in Tennessee and in noting their status of preservation."
--Steve McDaniel, president of the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association
"This publication is essential for any historian who desires to learn more about the War Between the States in Tennessee." --Confederate Veteran
Tennessee contains approximately twenty-nine hundred recorded sites from the Civil War. One thousand of these are locations of military action of varying sizes. Today, commercial and residential development threatens the conservation of these sites. This book presents a chronological overview of twenty of the major battles in the state through firsthand documents and established sources. Maps and more than one hundred photographs enhance the text to give the reader a comprehensive understanding of the significance of these battles and the current efforts to preserve a crucial piece of Tennessee's past.
In addition to serving as an adjunct for Jackson State Community College, Randy Bishop teaches history at Middleton High School in Tennessee. He is a six-time recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award and was recognized in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Along with contributing articles to such publications as Civil War Courier and Country Discoveries, the Civil War enthusiast authored Pelican's The Tennessee Brigade. Bishop resides in Middleton, Tennessee.
